Program Overview

Flying Blue is a joint frequent flyer program between KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France, Kenya Airways, and Air Europa. This unique partnership gives members a selection of nearly 18,000 flights, over 900 destinations, and over 100 partners. With such a wide selection, there is no shortage of opportunities to earn and burn miles with Flying Blue

Earn Miles with Flying Blue

Earning miles is easy with flights on KLM, Air France, Kenya Airways, Air Europa, and other SkyTeam carriers. Miles flown on member airlines and SkyTeam member airlines earn bot Award Miles and Level Miles. Award miles, as the name suggests, can be redeemed for award tickets, hotel rentals, car rentals, etc. Level miles qualify members for the various elite tiers: Ivory, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Level miles, like most EQM, reset every year on December 31st. Miles flown on partner airlines earn Award Miles but not Level Miles. Another easy way to earn Award Miles is through Flying Blue's extensive list of non-airline partners including hotel, car rental, and credit card partners.

Redeem Miles with Flying Blue

Once you've earned miles, they can be redeemed for award tickets on member airlines or SkyTeam partners, subject to blackout dates. Flying Blue allows a great degree of flexibility in booking award tickets, allowing stopovers (greater than 24 hour stop during a round trip), open jaw (fly into one city, and depart from another), and "Round-the-World" awards (1 transatlantic and transpacific flight on the same ticket, with a maximum of 6 stopovers).

Conclusion

With a wealth of earning opportunities across member and SkyTeam airlines as well as hotel, car rental, and retail partners, and flexibe redeeming opportunities, Flying Blue is an obvious choice for most Europe-based members.
