Program Overview
United Mileage Plus is the rewards program for the United Airlines. This program was the second frequent flier program to be instituted by an airline, and began in 1981 one week after American Airlines established their frequent flier program.
Earn Opportunities
United's Mileage Plus program gives its members the opportunity to earn points by completing flight segments on their airlines. There are also earnings opportunities available by using a variety of partner companies such as hotels and car rental agencies. There are also a variety of non-travel related companies and services, such as utilities and credit cards, that allow you to earn bonus miles in the program
Redeem Opportunities
Redemption of miles in the Mileage Plus program is available in a variety of levels. There are Saver Awards, which are half price redemption options, and Standard Awards. One can also redeem on a variety of partner airlines in the Star Alliance network. Upgrades can also be purchased with miles in the program.
Transfer Opportunities
The program does not offer opportunities for transfer other than through the utilization of the Star Alliance network or through the use of a Mileage Plus credit card.
